Putting My Experience
A native Texan, Jim Pruitt grew up in Houston where he worked at an oil refinery while attending college at night. He spent time in Alaska working on the pipeline and then moved to the Dallas area where he attended the University of Texas at Dallas, graduating with a degree in Political Science. He received his Juris Doctorate degree from Baylor Law School in 1984.
Jim has a heart for service. For the last 30 years, he has served his community in many capacities. He has been a city prosecutor, a criminal courts judge, and a volunteer firefighter. As the chairman of a Planning of Zoning Commission, he became an avid supporter of a city’s right to control its own density by encouraging single family residential developments. A fiscal conservative, he has also worked hard to lower taxes, remaining sensitive to the fact that operating accounts are taxpayer money.
In 1994, Judge Pruitt was honored to be elected as the judge for Dallas County Criminal Court Number Two. During his eight-year tenure of service to the county, Judge Pruitt was elected by his judicial peers as the Presiding Judge for three years and Local Administrative Judge for two years. As the Presiding Judge, he worked closely with the legislature regarding laws that would improve the criminal justice system and was instrumental in creating the first dedicated court in Dallas to address the issue of domestic violence. He has practiced law and for the past 20 years in a restored building on the historic Rockwall downtown square.
Jim became a member of the Rockwall City Council in 2012, and, in 2014, he was unanimously selected by his fellow city council members to replace former Mayor David Sweet when he resigned to become the Rockwall County Judge. Mayor Pruitt was then elected by the community to three additional consecutive terms before he rolled off in May 2021 in accordance with the city’s term limit charter. He is very honored to have served as Rockwall Mayor for the last six years and has worked hard on transportation, economic development, quality of life, and other issues important to Rockwall County residents. Upon becoming Mayor, he immediately made accessibility a priority, instituting open office hours for all residents. He has served on the Rockwall County Road Consortium, the Rockwall County Emergency Services Corporation, and the Rockwall Airport Development Committee. He has also been very active in the development and improvement of the Rockwall Downtown area.
Jim has four children, and he and his family live in Rockwall and attend First United Methodist Church in Rockwall.
LISTEN TO WHAT COMMUNITY LEADERS ARE SAYING ABOUT JIM:
Rockwall Mayor Kevin Fowler
"In each year Jim was Mayor, we were able to lower the tax rate in the City of Rockwall while continuing to grow our police and fire departments for the protection of our citizens."
Rockwall County Sheriff Harold Eavenson (ret.),
Past President National Sheriffs’ Association,
Co-Chair NSA Border Security Committee
"I believe Jim Pruitt would provide an immense amount of expertise to the Commissioners Court due to his significant legal background as well as his service on the Rockwall City Council that included six years as Mayor. It is also my opinion that his experience would be advantageous to law enforcement due to his understanding of the importance of public safety and the need for maintaining a well-equipped Sheriff’s Office."
Rockwall County Republican Precinct 2 Chair Francis White
Elected Representative of Republican Voters in Precinct 2
"Jim is a strong and active conservative Republican leader and will continue to serve our community with integrity."
Col. Bob Amick (US Army, ret.)
Distinguished veteran leader and former local Economic Development board member
"Jim Pruitt supports our veteran community and has made economic development a priority while preserving our small-town values.
Rockwall County Commissioner
"I am honored to endorse Jim Pruitt for Rockwall County Commissioner Precinct 2. As a staunch conservative, Jim served six and a half years as Mayor for the City of Rockwall. While Mayor, Jim fought hard to keep taxes as low as possible while recognizing the tremendous growth in the city. As our next County Commissioner Precinct 2, he will bring that same conservative philosophy to Rockwall County. Jim will continue to make our County a great place to live, work, and raise a family. Jim Pruitt is truly the best qualified candidate to become our next Rockwall County Commissioner Precinct 2."
Rockwall City Councilman
" Jim has led our community in planning for our future transportation needs."
Rockwall City Councilman
United States Secret Service (Retired)
From our arrival in Rockwall, Jim Pruitt has been a friend and confidante. As a resident and business owner in Rockwall, he has provided me with the guidance and insight needed to properly address issues that have impacted me, my family, and my business.
Major General Gary Bunch,
US Army, Retired
Past Chairman, Rockwall Economic Development Corporation
“While working with Mayor Jim Pruitt on the REDC, he consistently considered all aspects of an issue to include second and third order effects and always made the right recommendations and decisions that benefited the citizens of Rockwall. He will do the same for our County. No one more experienced. The best person for County Commissioner.”
